Tiere können ebenfalls mit Blutegel behandelt werden. In der Regel lassen die Tiere eine Blutegelbehandlung in aller Ruhe über sich ergehen. Zu Beginn des Saugvorgangs gibt der Blutegel anästhesierende und analgetisch wirksame Substanden ins Blut und Gewebe ab, was zur Beruhigung des zu behandelnden Tieres führt.

Die therapeutische Wirkung bei den Tieren ist in der Folge gleich wie bei Menschen. Die Substanzen des Blutegel fördern die Durchblutung, sind aber auch gerinnungshemmend und schmerz- sowie entzündungslindernd. Bei der Behandlung von Tieren mit Blutegeln habe ich bereits viele Erfahrungen bei Hunden gesammelt. Nebenwirkungen gibt es selten, es kann zu einer Rötung der Haut oder zu Juckreiz führen.

Die Blutegel können bei Tieren für folgende Leiden eingesetzt werden: Bei allen Tieren helfen sie zur Schmerzlinderung. Bei Pferden zeigen die Blutegel bei der Behandlung von entzündeten Hufen sehr gute Wirkung. Ein grosses Thema ist auch Arthrose bei Hunden: Die Blutegeltherapie hilft enorm, sie nimmt die Schmerzen und kann die Entzündungen um einiges verbessern.
